Havel from Deetz to Brandenburg

Whitsun weekend - May 2026

Deetz - Brandenburg

The train from Berlin Charlottenburg to Groß Kreutz is about 50 minutes on the RE1.

Walk Groß Kreutz - Deetz

5.5 km

Pleasant walk along the Solar System on the “Sonnensystemweg” in the shade for most parts. Boulders represent the planets at proportional distances.

Deetz - Brandenburg

16.8 km

The river Havel can get very busy and it is wide and it is best to have hardly any wind. But, fortunately it was Saturday and some football games were going on and I had a lot of the river to myself. Lots of birdsong in the reeds by the shore. What is very nice is to take the more slalom like path of the Havel take the sections that are not on the main water route devoid of the traffic. Here, you can sometimes spot the occasional adder (Ringelnatter) swimming across. Herons, cormorants, osprey, swans, geese and some highland cattle were along the river.
