Abbaye St Martin du Canigou

Abbaye St Martin du Canigou

9.4 km elevation about 650 m

A relatively demanding round trip past the further up and past a river (Font del Bac dels Monjos) at about 1300 m.

past the Abbey

I was wondering about the hand written “dangereuse!” on the last sign but I continued in the snow following the footsteps of the person that must have passed a day before me. Eventually I did get to the only way across the river.

A wire helped keep my balance on the slippery rocks just to face the snow-covered bank on the other side. Scrambling on to the snow, testing the ground with my hiking sticks, I continued on the slightly unpredictable path. An adventure.

Eventually managed to leave the snow behind me.

The Massif du Canigou is the most Eastern high peak of the Pyrenees. In winter, the peak is covered in snow.
